Beyond the Summit, Stunlock Studios and Twitch announce $10,000 Battlerite tournament
Stunlock Studios, Twitch and Beyond the Summit have combined to offer a Battlerite tournament with $10,000 (£8,000) up for grabs.
The tournament, named Enter the Arena, is a product of Stunlock Studios and Twitch whilst it will be presented by Beyond the Summit from their Los Angeles based studios. The competition is set to be played out between a mixture of invited teams and open qualifiers, with the best in Europe and North America to compete over two days for a total prize of $10,000.
Battlerite is far from a household name in the esports world; in fact many will never have heard of it. For those wondering what to expect from the gameplay the blog reads as follows:
“If you’re tuning in to Battlerite for the first time you’ll get the gist of it in a heartbeat, with similarities to fighting games, and World of Warcraft arena. It’s a fast-paced, visually dynamic brawlfest with an emphasis on skill and precision, favoring ‘WASD’ character movement and skillshots over ‘click-to-move’ and targeted abilities.
“As a first encounter with Battlerite for many viewers, we’re hoping to not only offer an entertaining broadcast, but to also introduce the game’s intricacies to fresh audiences, newer players as well as esports fans. We’re looking forward to the full free-to-play release and a series of competitive events this year.”
For tournament hosts, Beyond the Summit, it comes as their first foray into Battlerite. The L.A. based studio made their name in Dota 2 – where they sit comfortably as the largest studio, before branching out into Smash Bros and recently CS:GO. Traditionally, they’ve run tournaments with an intricate setting in their house where spectators are afforded a glimpse at their favourite esports players outside of the game.

Esports Insider says: Battlerite has been confined to smaller tournaments such as those run by ESL thus far, so with $10,000 on the line and an esteemed studio such as BTS taking the reigns, this could be intriguing. Definitely one to watch.
