fnatic send Liquid packing at the ESL Pro League Season 10 Finals

A quarterfinals appearance isn’t all Liquid was hoping to get, but when they were put up against an invigorated fnatic, it was all they were able to walk away with. The Swedish side looked poised to win the whole event with their performance in the 2-0 victory over the North Americans.

After opening up their ESL Pro League Season 10 campaign with a blow out loss to Evil Geniuses, fnatic seem to have found their footing as they took home 2-1 wins over Heroic and MIBR before finally cleaning a clean 2-0 over 100 Thieves to earn a spot in the playoffs.

Liquid, on the other hand, opened up with a jetlagged victory over North before managing a narrow 2-1 win over mousesports. A 2-0 start in Odense put Liquid up against Astralis to decide who would have a direct ticket in the semifinals. After a close series, Astralis would punch their ticket and put Liquid in the quarterfinal matchup against fnatic.

Unfortunately for Liquid, they looked out of their depth on Overpass as fnatic stormed off to a strong lead before the North Americans could grab a a few rounds of their own to make it competitive. Liquid has lost to fnatic on the same map at the ECS finals by a margin of 16-6 so things weren’t too optimistic from the start, however, they did manage to earn an extra five rounds this go around. 16-11 would be the final score of map one, giving fnatic a 1-0 advantage moving into Liquid’s pick of Inferno.

A map Liquid has proven to be a force on, fnatic is no push over on either. The Swedes showed an even stronger performance on the classic map, giving up only five rounds on their CT side before dominating the duels from the T-side.

Ludvig “Brollan” Brolin and Freddy “KRIMZ” Johansson led the team with +19 and +18 kill-to-death differentials respectively. Both players also posted over 90 average damage per round as they looked comfortable against the talent Liquid lineup. Only Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski finished positive for Liquid at +7.

fnatic will take on Natus Vincere in the semifinals.
