LA Thieves surpass Dallas Empire in followers on Twitter – Daily Esports
The Los Angeles Thieves have become the 2nd most followed Call of Duty League team before even playing a match. The team currently has over 100,000 followers on Twitter. OpTic Chicago is currently the only Call of Duty League team with more followers than the LA Thieves. Both have surpassed even the 2020 CDL Champions Dallas Empire in followers on Twitter.
Before the rebrand to OpTic Chicago, the Chicago Huntsmen had roughly 126,000 followers on Twitter. After being absorbed under the OpTic Gaming brand, the CDL team has over 200,000 followers. Hector’s “H3CZ” acquisition of the OpTic Gaming brand excited the whole Call of Duty community. It didn’t feel right not to have the “real” OpTic in the CDL under H3CZ’s control.
However, OpTic Chicago wasn’t the only exciting news that hit the Call of Duty scene in the offseason. 100 Thieves, arguably the most hyped Call of Duty team, announced their return to the scene. LA Thieves was born from the previous OpTic Gaming Los Angeles spot that was owned by Immortals. The return of Hector’s OpTic and 100 Thieves was exactly what the CoD scene needed after 2020. Season two of the Call of Duty League will feature rebranded teams, new additions, and a new game. All of which is a major improvement from the inaugural season of the franchised league.
LA Thieves make headlines before performing
100 Thieves received their organization’s first trophies from Call of Duty in 2019. Unfortunately, the winning would end at the 2019 Call of Duty Championship where 100 Thieves lost to eUnited in the finals. It was then announced that 100 Thieves would not be returning to Call of Duty.
LA Thieves was officially announced on Nov. 6 which had the CoD community talking on Twitter for days. Over the next few days, the LA Thieves account continued to steadily gain followers. The more announcements they made regarding their team, the more their following grew. However, just a week after their announcement, they had already passed most CDL teams. The CDL season officially begins on Jan. 23 with the Kickoff Classic. OpTic Chicago faces off against the LA Thieves in the final match of the weekend. This will mark the beginning of the rivalry between these two teams.
