Pokémon Go Bug Out event guide: Field Research, Shiny Scyther, and more

Spring is here, which means that bugs are crawling out from the dirt and getting ready to buzz around. The bugs in Pokémon Go are also rampant with a special Bug Out event.

More bug Pokémon will spawn, and Incense will last two times longer and attract more Pokémon during this event. Shiny Scyther and Scizor have also been activated for the first time, and there’s an increased chance to run one until April 9 at 4 p.m. ET, when the event ends.

There’s a handful of special Field Research tasks that reward bug-type Pokémon or a hefty handful of Stardust. Special thanks to the players over at Leek Duck for compiling these.

Bug Out 2019 Field Research Tasks

Task Reward
Task Reward
Catch 10 Bug-type Pokémon Scyther
Catch 2 Wurmple Caterpie
Catch 6 Ledyba or Spinarak Yanma
Evolve 3 Bug-type Pokémon Nincada
Catch 15 Bug-type Pokémon 1,500 Stardust

Both Scyther and Nincada are rare spawns, so their tasks should take priority for collectors trying to score enough candy for a Scizor or Ninjask. Nincada was last available through Field Research tasks during November and has not returned since. There’s no word on whether or not the cicada-like Pokémon will start spawning regularly or not, so stock up on them while you can.

Scyther isn’t the only rare Pokémon spawning more frequently. Players should also use this opportunity to nab Pineco, another rare spawn affected by the bug-type rate increase. Pineco also has a greater chance of appearing Shiny, so it’s much easier to catch one during this event.
