Battlefield 3 remaster coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X claims rumour
A new rumour suggests that there’s not one but two new Battlefield releases in development, with a remaster of 2011’s Battlefield 3.
As soon as EA announced a new Battlefield game was being released next autumn almost everyone assumed it would be set during the modern day, even before rumours started to emerge suggesting exactly that.
But now a slightly less obvious rumour has appeared, claiming that developer DICE will also create a remaster of 2011 title Battlefield 3, arguably the most popular Battlefield title with a modern day setting.
The suggestion is that EA are following a similar path to Activision and how they handled the reboot of Modern Warfare, which also saw a remaster released during the same time frame.
The rumour was started by YouTuber Daqarie but while the title of the video is Battlefield 3 Remaster 2020 Leak they never say when exactly the remaster is expected to be released, only that it will be a next gen title for Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and PC.
That means there’s a chance it could be featured at the PlayStation 5 reveal event, although more likely it would be at the EA Play event on 18 June.
Daqarie claims that the remaster has been on the cards for a long time, since at least the launch of Battlefield 5, and that it will contain all of the original game’s DLC, as well as updated graphics.
It will also include new cosmetic options, apparently also inspired by the remaster of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare.
Daqarie has a very solid track record in terms of Battlefield, having leaked accurate information on both Battlefield 1 and 5, so it’s interesting that, as with the Battlefield 6 rumours, there’s no mention of Bad Company.
Although many fans have been insistent that Bad Company 3 would be the best way forward for the series, if that were what’s happening you’d expect remasters of the first two games and not Battlefield 3.
Of course, it may be simply that the rumours are false, but at the moment there’s nothing to suggest a Bad Company revival is DICE’s current plan.
