The Call of Duty Modern Warfare alpha launches on Friday August 23 and is only available on the PS4.
Xbox One and PC fans will have to wait for the Call of Duty Modern Warfare open beta that is taking place in September to try it out.
The Call of Duty Modern Warfare open alpha will begin at 6pm BST on Friday August 23.
For those in other regions that will be 10am pacific time and 1pm eastern time.
There will be five maps that Call of Duty fans will be able to try out in the Modern Warfare alpha.
These are as follows: Speedball, King, Pine, Docks, and Stack.
Activision has also said that the Gunfight configurations will be shaken up throughout the weekend.
The Call of Duty publisher said: “Expect multiple Operators to be available, at least one game mode to play (with “Pickup” variant mode scheduled), and a number of other surprises as content is added throughout the weekend!”
When the full version launches Call of Duty Modern Warfare will also feature 6v6, 10v10, 20v20, and 100 plus player modes.
A post on the PlayStation Blog also offered Call of Duty fans tips and tricks for getting to grips with the Modern Warfare alpha once it launches.
In it Tim Turi from Sony Interactive Entertainment said: “Unlike Modern Warfare’s core Multiplayer experience – which is all about insanely deep weapon customisation – Gunfight Mode is about adapting to unpredictable loadouts in intimate 2v2 maps.
“It’s a refreshing, intense contrast that enriches the overall package.
“The goal is simple: First team to win five rounds secures victory. The catch is each team begins a given round with a “random” weapon loadout.
“Infinity Ward has curated a wide range of loadouts, from pistol and rocket launcher combos to scoped shotguns.
“You never know what you’re going to get, so quick thinking and fast reflexes are rewarded. The opposing team starts with the same loadout, which makes predicting enemy strategies crucial.”
The Call of Duty Modern Warfare open alpha finishes on Sunday August 25.
This will be followed by PS4 multiplayer beta early access on Thursday September 12 and Friday September 13.
The Call of Duty Modern Warfare PS4 open beta then runs from September 14 to September 16.
After that on September 19 and September 20 Xbox One early access to the multiplayer beta begins as does the PC open beta.
Then on September 21 to September 23 there will be an open beta for all platforms.
