Cyberpunk 2077’s Multiplayer Is "A Big Production" And "Standalone Product", Says CD Projekt Red

No more delays. In its most recent earnings call, CD Projekt Red said that Cyberpunk 2077 will release on December 10 for realsies this time. And that means we’ll all get to take our first steps into Night City whether we own a next-gen console, current-gen console, or gaming PC.

On that same call, CD Projekt Red president and co-CEO Adam Kicinski also dropped a few hints on Cyberpunk 2077’s multiplayer mode.

“It’s a separate dedicated production, a big production and we plan — we think about it as a standalone product. Obviously, it’s not entirely standalone as it comes from the universe of Cyberpunk and is very much related to the concept of single-player Cyberpunk we – I came up with. But from our perspective, it – is another independent production and independent team of people works on it.”

CD Projekt Red still hasn’t told us much about what Cyberpunk’s multiplayer will look like. Previous reports have made it sound like a GTA Online-style add-on to the core game that comes at a later date, but Kicinski seems to be describing a completely separate game similar to what’s going on with Red Dead Online.

Kicinski provided no further details other than to say it’s still in development and has no release window.

He did at least mention that the three-week delay in Cyberpunk’s release has done wonders for its performance on current-gen consoles. “Of course, [the performance is] a bit lower than on pros, but surprisingly good, I would say, for such a huge world.”

CD Projekt Red released a comparison video showcasing Cyberpunk 2077 on the PS5 and PS4 Pro just a few days ago, and we have to agree that it looks very good on both consoles. You can definitely see where the PS5 is an upgrade, especially in lighting, shadows, textures, and atmospheric effects, but the PS4 Pro is still a fine option for exploring Night City.

Cyberpunk 2077 arrives everywhere on December 10. For sure.
