Dragon Quest: Your Story Listing Has Appeared On Netflix

It appears that the Dragon Quest movie will be released overseas on streaming video platforms, as a listing for Dragon Quest: Your Story has appeared on Netflix.

Dragon Quest: Your Story is a CGI movie adaptation of Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride, which follows a young boy on his journey into adulthood, as he must go on a quest to find the Legendary Hero. Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride is often considered to be the best game in the series by the fans, though the reception to Dragon Quest: Your Story wasn’t as positive, especially as it switched the classic Akira Toriyama artwork for something more akin to a Dreamworks movie.

Dragon Quest: Your Story received a theatrical release in Japan, as the Dragon Quest franchise is huge in its homeland. There was never word of an international theatrical release of Dragon Quest: Your Story, but it seems that the movie will be coming to Netflix, as the site now has a page for the movie. The page is active as of the time of writing, but @JRPictures has a screengrab of the page in case it gets taken down.

The page for Dragon Quest: Your Story lacks a release date, but it does have a blurb that describes the plot of the movie and includes some localized names. According to the blurb, the protagonist of the film is called Luca (Ruka in Japan) and that he has taken up his father’s quest to save the life of his m0ther from the evil Ladja. In order to complete his quest, Luca will need to find the Zenithian sword.

It makes way more sense to release Dragon Quest: Your Story on a platform like Netflix instead of putting it in the theaters, as the Dragon Quest video game series has only just started to find an audience outside of Japan. Putting the movie on Netflix would help it to reach a far larger audience. It’s just a shame that there isn’t a port of Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride on modern systems (outside of mobile phones) to be promoted by the film.
