Fortnite Event Leaks WARNING: Star Wars fans good and bad news before start time
The next big Fortnite event is now only a few hours away and as is a tradition we've already seen several leaks swirling around social media platforms such as Facebook, Reddit and Twitter.
But most of these relate to skins, challenges and many more features we suspect will be turned on following the event itself.
Typically in events gone past we've normally seen leaks aplenty for Fortnite events, with dataminers usually sharing plenty of info as encrypted files become available an hour before the event begins.
In the case of today's event, it's all kicking off at 1.30pm eastern time, which is 10.30am pacific time and 6.30pm UK time.
However, the official start time is actually 2pm eastern, 11am pacific and 7pm GMT.
That means we could start seeing leaks in the next couple of hours.
However, ahead of time there's been a plea from Epic Games for dataminers to not leak anything.
The original message, which comes via Programmer and Epic Games Affiliate “Jaren” was shared online, which comes from an Epic employee known as “MagmaReef”.
The message reads:
"Hey. I know that you guys have voluntarily chosen not to spoil a few events in the past and that is much appreciated at Epic. We are asking you to please not spoil tomorrow's Star Wars event. We know that certain assets will be available to you a few hours before the event and that your normal routine is to post them online (sometimes with "filter this word to prevent spoiler" tags). Epic is respectfully requesting that you respect the enormous amount of hard work that countless people have put into making tomorrow a truly one-of-a-kind spectacle, something never done before in a video game, and allow players to experience it for the first time without any preconceived notions or leaks.I know it's entirely voluntary and not everyone may go along with it, but we would truly appreciate it if you didn't leak tomorrow's event."
MagmaReef also added:
"Also, and this is not meant as a threat, tomorrow's event features intellectual property from third parties (Disney / Lucasfilm) and we have no control or oversight into what their legal team may do in order to enforce their IP rights online in the event that information is published ahead of schedule. Again, we understand it's truly voluntary and we've not asked for this kind of a favor before, but we would really appreciate it if the leaker community did not publish information about tomorrow's event once it is available to them. Please feel free to circulate this message throughout the leaker community so everyone has visibility. Thank you."
Now, surprisingly, most well-known leakers actually seem to be abiding by the request and are completely ok with respecting Epic's wishes.
Noteable leakers have all taken to Twitter to share they won't be revealing any of the details.
FNLeaksAndInfo wrote: "I will not be leaking tomorrows event from a request by Epic also I don't really wanna spoil it for anyone and myself!"
HypeX also added: "Do not spoil tomorrow's event! (i won't, if anyone does.. i'm blocking them!)"
Whilst @Lucas7Yoshi wrote: "Following a message I've received from Epic I'm just going to confirm that I will not be leaking any part of this event. Genuinely seems they really want it to be a surprise to people and I'll respect that."
There is however a small silver lining to all this, especially to those who can't watch the event tonight, either because they're unable to play the game or simply don't play Fortnite and don't want the hassle.
As per leaker HypeX, it's been confirmed that Streamers on Twitch, YouTube or Mixer will be able to stream the event without fear of copyright issues.
This was also confirmed by MagmaReef, who confirmed that "Both Epic and Disney expect people to do that and don't want to penalize people for enjoying the event or sharing their experiences".
There might have been a concern beforehand that the event could incur copyright strikes on the various streaming platforms.
Which in turn would also make it more difficult for anyone not playing the game to watch the event – and the "never-before-seen" footage after the event has occurred.
So you can worry not that if you can't watch the event later tonight that you can catch up later.
