Horizon Forbidden West release date delayed to February 2022
Rumours of a delay for Horizon Forbidden West have proven true, with Sony now appearing to have no major new exclusives for Christmas.
Not only did news of Halo Infinite’s release date leak before Gamescom started but so too did the revelation that Horizon Forbidden West won’t be out this year, with Sony confirming that that game won’t now release until February 18, 2022.
Unless you count Death Stranding: Director’s Cut, which was also featured at Gamescom, that means that Sony doesn’t seem to have any first party releases left this year – unless they have something secret up their sleeves.
By contrast, Microsoft, who just released Microsoft Flight Simulator and Psychonauts 2, has both Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite coming out before Christmas.
The delay for Horizon Forbidden West had been widely expected and wasn’t blamed on anything other than the difficulties of working during the pandemic.
This February is starting to look increasingly busy, with a typically poor bit of video game scheduling meaning that Horizon Forbidden West, Destiny 2: The Witch Queen, and Saints Row will all now launch within the same seven-day window.
There was some good news for Horizon fans at Gamescom though, with developer Guerrilla Games announcing that the PlayStation 5 version of Horizon Zero Dawn will get a 60fps update this week, the update for which should already be live by the time you read this.
Aloy’s cameo in Genshin Impact was also highlighted, with a first look at gameplay footage and the new cartoonish stylings of Horizon’s central protagonist.
