Nightingale is a gaslamp fantasy survival game – early access starts 2022
Inflexion Games has debuted its first project, a shared world survival game titled Nightingale, at The Game Awards 2021.
Amongst all the big announcements for major franchises like Halo, Star Wars, and Wonder Woman, some of the games to debut at The Game Awards 2021 were entirely new IPs. For instance, the intriguing looking Nightingale from Canadian studio Inflexion Games.
A shared world survival and crafting game, Nightingale is set in what has been described as a gaslamp Victorian fantasy world. The premise sees you stranded in the Fae Realms, and you must search for a way back to Nightingale, the last haven for humanity, either on your own or with allies.
It’s still in early development, with everything in the announcement trailer coming from a pre-alpha build. But it gives a good idea of what to expect from Nightingale. You’ll explore your surroundings, gather materials, build estates and farms, craft weapons, and fight off the many monsters that populate the land.
Some of the enemy designs, such as the giants, seem pretty typical for a fantasy game like this, but there are also some surprisingly horrifying ones too that wouldn’t look out of place in Slitterhead.
If you’ve never heard of Inflexion Games, that’s because this is its first project. However, the studio is made up of former BioWare staff, who have collectively worked on the likes of Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic.
According to the official website, Nightingale will only release for PC in 2022, with no mention of a possible console launch, but that’s probably only because it’s early access at first – with console versions likely to come later.
It doesn’t have a date for when testing will start, but if you’re at all curious, you can sign up to receive newsletters, so you’ll be among the first to know.
