Rainbow Six Quarantine Might Be Changing Its Name

Rainbow Six Quarantine has been in development for years, but it seems like it will finally be arriving later this year. However, it might go by a different name at launch, as Ubisoft tries to avoid any relationship to the ongoing pandemic.

Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft CEO, made the announcement during the latest earnings call. When asked about the game’s name – and whether it’s problematic due to COVID-19 – Guillemot kept an open mind. “It is something we are evaluating and we will see what comes in the future on that product,” he said.

While its name might be up in the air, its release timeframe is not. According to Ubisoft, Rainbow Six Quarantine will arrive before September 30. That’ll no doubt be reassuring to fans of the series, who have heard little about the title in the past few months – beyond a delay late last year.

Unlike Rainbow Six Siege, Quarantine doesn’t seem to be heavy on PvP. Instead, you’ll team up with two other players and fend off hordes of zombie-like foes. It’s heavily based on the Outbreak event in Rainbow Six Siege – if you played that, expect more of the same. It will also supposedly feature some Operators from Siege, including Ela and Vigil.

Beyond that, little is known about the long-awaited game. However, delays and lengthy gaps between installments in the franchise are nothing new to Rainbow Six fans. In fact, the ultra-popular Rainbow Six Siege was built from the remains of Rainbow Six Patriots – a project that was announced in 2011 and canceled in 2014. Prior to the release of Siege in 2015, the last Rainbow Six game to hit store shelves was Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 in 2008.

If there’s one thing Rainbow Six fans are good at, it’s being patient.

Launching a highly-anticipated title with the word Quarantine in its title is a bold move during a pandemic, although let’s hope things are better in September and quarantines are just a thing of the past.
