Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse First Look Revealed
We've finally got a first look at the sequel for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Sony Pictures Entertainment dropped a trailer early this morning, and has confirmed that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be coming exclusively to theatres on October 7, 2022.
The two and a half minute teaser trailer picks off right at the ending moment of the first movie, where Miles is chilling out to some tunes when a dimensional portal opens up, with Gwen asking him if he's got a minute. The two reacquaint themselves in Miles' childhood room, while he unsuccessfully tries to hide some embarrassing stuff.
We then cut to Miles in his full suit, jumping between dimensions via some kind of portal. He lands up in a futuristic looking city, only to be immediately tackled by Spider-Man 2099, a.k.a. Miguel O'Hara, who we last saw in the post credits scene of Into the Spider-Verse. Miguel seems to have it out for Miles, as the two get into a web-tangled battle across the city, and even travel across dimensions at one point. We then see the title of the movie and learn that this will just be part one.
There were a few interesting things to notice in this teaser. The first setting Miles jumped to appears to be some kind of futuristic India. We can deduce this via the Indian-electronic fusion music, the signs in the background, and the 'Thwips' appearing in the Hindi Devanagari script. There was a Spider-Man India comic launched in 2004, but that was set in current times.
Secondly, we're not sure why Miguel is fighting Miles. We know from the post-credits scene of the first movie that he has the technology to jump between dimensions; perhaps his dimension is still affected by the events of the first movie. He did land up on Earth-67 and ask the native Spider-Man to come with him, before getting into a meme-worth pointing argument. Perhaps he needs to round up the Spider-gang once again to fight off a multiversal threat of some kind.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will get a theatrical release on October 7, 2022.
