Survey hails rise of ‘granny gamers’ with 27% of over-65s playing video games

Many older games said they used games to keep their minds active, with 40% admitting they play strategy titles in particular to counter the effects of aging. Of those surveyed, 31% said they just did it for fun, and to avoid stress, while others used it as an excuse for interacting with their grandchildren.

More than half of parents and grandparents said they were interested in playing with younger members of the family and 18% of grandparents said they already had.

Overall, 53% of all people surveyed said they had played a video game in the past five years, breaking down to 60% of men and 45% of women.

A total of 67% of adults surveyed said they used to play video games as a teenager, increasing to 98% for those under 35. Implying these figures will only go up in the future.
