The Forgotten City Dev "Can’t Wait" To Tell Us About The Next Game

The Forgotten City was one of 2021's big indie hits. After initially starting its life as a Skyrim mod by the same name, the team went on to change the setting to something completely different, turning it into a standalone game. We weren't shy about how much we loved it over at TheGamer, naming it our 2021 Game of the Year.

Now, less than a year since its launch, developer Modern Storyteller is already planning its next game. Reminiscing on its award season success, creator Nick Pearce has commented that the team is "dreaming up our next adventure", and that they "can't wait to tell [us] about it, when it's ready".

This seemingly confirms that The Forgotten City was both a critical and commercial success for the fledgling studio, allowing it to focus on a totally new project.

There's no hint as to what this game would look like, but it's fair to say that The Forgotten City rounded off pretty conclusively. What's interesting to note is that The Forgotten City is the only mod on Pearce's Nexus Mods page, so whatever does come next will be a totally new experience.

According to the Modern Storyteller website, the company is formed of just three full-time employees. Despite this small team, they recently saw great success in the recent award season, scooping up 50 appearances on Game of the Year lists, and even a BAFTA nomination.

If you haven't had the chance to try The Forgotten City out for yourself yet, it's currently available on Game Pass. You can also judge it for yourself on PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC. If you've already played it through and want to mix it up a bit, the original mod – which was award-winning in its own right – is still free to download for Skyrim.
