Ubisoft adds to list of PS5 backwards compatible issues, then backtracks

A number of PS4 Ubisoft games were listed as not being backwards compatible on the PS5, suggesting there could be even more.

According to Sony, only 10 PlayStation 4 games can’t be played on the PlayStation 5 via backwards compatibility.

But recently, Ubisoft added another nine to that list in an official blog post, including the following:

  • Assassin’s Creed Syndicate
  • Assassin’s Creed Chronicles Trilogy Pack
  • Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China
  • Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India
  • Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: Russia
  • Star Trek: Bridge Crew
  • Risk
  • Space Junkies
  • Werewolves Within

However, that list has since been deleted from Ubisoft’s website. In a statement to IGN, a representative says that ‘there may be inaccuracies involving the Ubisoft titles that will be playable on PS5.’

At the time of writing, it’s unclear whether this means some of the games initially listed can be played on PlayStation 5 or if there’s more Ubisoft needs to add to it.

Regardless, the fact that such a list exists does suggest that there could be more PlayStation 4 games from other publishers that can’t be played on the PlayStation 5, as it’s hard to believe that Ubisoft alone would be affected.

It’s possible that there are still PlayStation 4 games that have yet to be tested and we could learn more throughout the coming months, especially once the PlayStation 5 is in the hands of the public.

Meanwhile, Xbox fans don’t need to worry about this at all, as one of Microsoft’s biggest selling points is that the Xbox Series X/S can play every Xbox One game, except for Kinect-only titles.

The Xbox Series X/S will even provide upgrades to backwards compatible games, like automatically adding HDR and, in some cases, doubling the frame rate.

The PlayStation 5 will launch in the UK on November 19.
