WWE 2K Battlegrounds release date is this September – trailer looks decent
Since there’s no WWE 2K21 coming out this year a more cartoonish replacement has been brought in and it doesn’t look half bad.
The WWE games have, frankly, been terrible all generation and the best decision 2K has made in relation to the series has to be cancel this year’s game and give the next one more time to develop.
They didn’t want to go the year without a new wrestling game though, which is where WWE 2K Battlegrounds comes in.
The game was only teased beforehand but now has a proper announce trailer and a release date, of 30 September on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Stadia.
As you can see, it’s a much less serious simulation than usual, almost as if you’re battling with action figures rather than the wrestlers themselves.
There seems to be a good mix of old and new faces in there, with the trailer spending a surprising amount of time on André the Giant, of all people.
A total of 70 wrestlers are promised in the end, with even more being added via DLC. Although as with the regular games you can also create your own character if you prefer.
WWE 2K Battlegrounds is being made by World War Z developer Saber Interactive, which makes a lot more sense when you realise they also did the similarly pitched NBA 2K Playgrounds.
