Yakuza: Like A Dragon’s latest trailer effectively confirms the Xbox Series X will be out in the last two weeks of November.

Yakuza: Like A Dragon (known as Yakuza 7 in Japan) already appeared to have given away when the Xbox Series X will release, but now we have official confirmation courtesy of a release date trailer.

While primarily focused on showing off aspects of the game’s turn-based combat, possibly the most important detail comes right at the very end.

The game will release on 13 November for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, with Sega also confirming that it will be a day one launch title for the Xbox Series X.

Although it doesn’t provide an exact date for it, this seems to mean the Xbox Series X won’t launch before 13 November.

The way Sega’s talking also implies that the Xbox Series X version will be out slightly later than the Xbox One version.

So given Microsoft has said that the Xbox Series X will be out sometime in November that makes it almost certain that its release date is either 20 or 27 November. But given the 27th is Black Friday that seems to make the 20th the only practical date available (assuming it is a Friday, but console launches, including the Xbox One, usually are).

13 November is still an outside possibility but given everything that’s happened you wouldn’t have thought Microsoft would want to tempt providence, and internet mockery, by launching on Friday 13th.

Does this mean the PlayStation 5 will come out around then too? While that is possible, the trailer only says that Yakuza: Like A Dragon is ‘coming soon’ to Sony’s machine.

How long the wait will be is unknown, but it does mean that prospective PlayStation 5 owners that want to enjoy the new Yakuza straight away are probably best getting the PlayStation 4 release.

Sega has promised that PlayStation 4 owners can upgrade to a PlayStation 5 copy at no extra cost, so need to worry about double-dipping.

In case you need reminding, Yakuza: Like A Dragon is the series’ first foray into the role-playing game genre and features a brand-new protagonist, Ichiban Kasuga.

He and his companions are able to take on over 20 different jobs, each granting them unique abilities to use in battle, including chef, idol, and casino dealer, as demonstrated in the trailer.

The series is well-known for its flashy, over-the-top combat, but things look even crazier than ever, with Kasuga dressing up as a knight to fight a literal dragon at one point.

This is all down to Kasuga himself being an avid fan of the role-playing genre and the battles that play out are how he envisions them in his head.

Also, at one point, about seven seconds or so into the trailer, we swear we can see former protagonist Kazuma Kiryu standing alongside the heroes.

Yakuza 6 was meant to act as the closing chapter to his saga but, while it had been confirmed he would be returning, it appears he’ll be playing more than a simple cameo role and actively aid Kasuga.

Long time fans of the series may also recognise Daigo Dojima, the current head of the Tojo Clan, in the background of the same scene, standing alongside what appears to be Masaru Watase, a member of the rival Omi Alliance who last appeared in Yakuza 5.

Yakuza: Like A Dragon will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on 13 November. It will release for Xbox Series X in November and for PlayStation 5 at a later date.
