Banjo-Kazooie announced for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
After weeks of rumors about a collaboration between Microsoft and Nintendo, a new challenger has appeared. Yes, our furry platforming pals Banjo and Kazooie are joining Nintendo’s 70-plus character roster for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Since release, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has had a number of DLC characters, including Joker from Persona 5, and Piranha Plant from the Mario games. With Banjo-Kazooie, Nintendo can technically now say that it has characters from both Sony, Microsoft, and Sega under its belt, which is absolutely wild to think about. Granted, this announcement probably won’t be a surprise to anyone who was paying attention:
Of course, Banjo-Kazooie is no stranger to Nintendo platforms — the duo originally premiered on Nintendo 64 hardware, back when Rare wasn’t owned by Microsoft. Aside from re-releases, we haven’t seen much of either character since 2008’s Nuts & Bolts, which was released for the Xbox 360.
While Nintendo didn’t announce a price point for Banjo-Kazooie, it’s worth noting that they’ve said that each “challenger pack” will individually cost $5.99 each. Challenger packs come with a new fighter, stage, and music tracks. All currently planned challenger packs will be out by 2020. If we add Banjo-Kazooie to the list, which now also includes Dragon Quest’s hero, that means there are two more characters left to reveal. A “fighters pass” is also purchasable, which bundles all DLC packs for $24.99, making them available as soon as they’re out.
