Blizzard Is Not Attending Gamescom 2019

Blizzard has announced that it will not be attending Gamescom, Europe’s largest games show, this year.

In a post on the Blizzard website, the developer said “As part of a renewed effort this year to maintain our focus on development, for our current games and our future projects, we won’t have a booth at gamescom 2019.”

The company will have a stall in the Gamescom shop area, however, where visitors will be able to buy Blizzard gear products.

Traditionally Activision Blizzard always has a substantially large booth on the Gamescom show floor, with Blizzard’s games making up a significant part of the area. The company has often used the European show as a place to make some major announcements, too. But it looks like fans of Overwatch, World of Warcraft, and Blizzard’s other games won’t be getting any news this August.

“We’re also looking forward to sharing more details about the projects we’re currently working on when the time is right,” Blizzard added. It may be that the company’s next major announcements are made at BlizzCon, which is traditionally held at the Anaheim Convention Center every November.

Blizzard laid off 209 staff earlier this year as part of Activision Blizzard’s restructuring. It is unclear if this restructure is what has led to the decision to focus on development and not attend Gamescom this year.
