Battlefield 5’s Firestorm battle royale trailer prepares everyone to escape a burnin’ ring of fire

Firestorm, Battlefield 5’s battle royale mode, launches March 25, and Electronic Arts delivered a gameplay trailer on Thursday to show players what they can expect. If you’ve been hankering for EA DICE’s take on the most popular shooter sub-type today, Firestorm looks like it will fix your little red wagon.

Or, rather, your little red tractor.

Yep, that’s a vintage tractor, towing some vintage firepower, helping players make their great escape from the encroaching ring-sting. Vehicles figure prominently into Firestorm’s balance; finding a bunker or a garage and hauling out a tank, jeep, Nazi staff car, or good ol’ International Harvester can turn the tide for those in the field of 64 who are lucky enough to get one.

The advantages that vehicles deliver can be countered, of course, with things like anti-tank weapons. Not even a John Deere can stand up to shaped-charge explosive. Downed players can also fire their sidearms while waiting for a revive. In all, DICE appears to have a system of checks and balances that will offer big action and breakthrough offense without warping the whole thing.

Firestorm’s map, Halvøy, is 10 times larger than the previous largest map in the game, Hamada. It kind of has to be if there are 17 vehicles to help people scoot around to safety or run over adversaries, without that being totally unfair about it.

Firestorm launches with solo and squad play (16 four-player teams), and a duos mode is expected sometime in April. Battlefield 5 is available on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.
