Bungie reveals Destiny 2: Shadowkeep’s ability updates, armor sets
In its weekly blog post, Bungie announced upcoming changes to players’ abilities and Supers in Destiny 2. The studio also unveiled some of the new armor sets players can find in Destiny 2: Shadowkeep early next month.
Bungie started by announcing the buffs it’ll be making to some Guardians’ abilities.
For Nightstalker’s bottom tree, Way of the Pathfinder, the smoke bomb now makes all allies invisible and grants them a stack of the Heart of the Pack buff. This buff grants the players bonus stats, and offers increased weapon reload speed and handling. The invisibility also lasts eight seconds now, up from seven.
The abilities for Way of the Pathfinder feed into themselves as well. Dealing damage with a grenade reduces the cooldown of the Guardian’s melee attack, while making allies invisible grants grenade energy. The Moebius Quiver Super now does far more damage as well, dealing increased damage to already tethered enemies. Killing enemies trapped in the Shadowshot also grants the Heart of the Pack buff to nearby allies.
Shadowshot in general deals nearly double the damage as before, and now one shots enemy Guardians in PvP.
For Titans, Bungie is revamping the Code of the Protector Sentinel tree. Now when Titans create an energy shield for their allies, players can increase their melee energy by getting kills before their overshield expires. The heal that Titans send out on melee kills is also improving.
The biggest change for Code of the Protector players is the return of Ward of Dawn’s damage buff from the original Destiny, Weapons of Light. When players walk in or out of the shield, they’ll gain a 35 percent damage buff for 15 seconds. The bubble is also much harder to destroy with Guardian Super abilities. Code of the Aggressor Sentinels’ Shield Bash ability now suppresses the target and any nearby enemies.
Warlocks only got a few quality of life changes. The Attunement of Hunger tree’s Nova Bomb now deals 15 percent more damage on initial hit and through the void aura left behind. Well of Radiance Warlocks generate more Orbs of Light.
With the buffs out of the way, Bungie clarified how it plans to nerf some Supers and core gameplay mechanics.
Enemies trapped in the Way of the Trapper’s Shadowshot now share 50 percent less damage than before. Way of the Wraith’s Truesight ability is also down from nine seconds to three seconds.
One of the biggest hits comes to abilities that can instantly reload players’ weapons. To make fights more difficult and reduce players’ ability to melt bosses, Warlock’s Lunafaction Boots and Titan’s Rally Barricades no longer instantly reload weapons. Instead, both the Exotic and the ability will drastically increase reload speed for players.
Bungie is also slowing down players’ abilities to chain Supers together. Orbs of Light now refund far less Super energy than they did before. Super Orbs and Masterwork Orbs offer 50 percent of what they used to, with enemy kills and assists offering 25 percent less.
Bungie is completely changing the way damage buffs stack. Instead of letting multiple buffs stack with one another — letting players deal extremely high amounts of damage — the studio is tuning it back.
Players can have only one buff active at a time — Empowering Rift, Frontal Assault, Guiding Flame, Sun Warrior, Inertia Override, Well of Radiance, Lumina’s Noble Rounds, or Weapons of Light.
Players who are under the effects of multiple buffs will only gain the benefits of the best one. If the best buff falls off and players are still under the effects of others, the game will automatically give them the next best buff. Individual buffs like Rampage are still multiplicative with player buffs.
Bungie also reduced the power of enemy debuffs like Shattering Strike, Hammer Strike, Tractor Cannon, and Shadowshot.
Finally, players won’t have nearly as much health while in their Supers. Depending on the danger level of the Super — some Supers are more risky than others, and therefore come with more or less resistance — Bungie has adjusted their defensive values. Overall, players should be easier to kill while using their Super, especially in PvP.
In addition to the nerfs and buffs, the studio revealed a host of new armor sets that players can earn in Shadowkeep. The following sets display, from left to right: Titans, Hunters, Warlocks.

Bungie also revealed a host of Year 1 and Year 2 armor sets returning with Armor 2.0 versions:

Bungie will release Destiny 2: Shadowkeep for PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One on Oct. 1. The Google Stadia version will come later this year.
