Someone created Super Mario Maker inside LittleBigPlanet 3
Get ready to stare, once again, into the hall of mirrors that is the sandbox creation genre. Especially when a sandbox creation game apes another one. Yo dawg, here’s Super Mario Maker inside LittleBigPlanet 3, so you can have fun building levels while you have fun building levels.
This work is by Claptrap9; it hit YouTube last week-ish. They got to work on it on MAR10 day (March 10) to celebrate the announcement a month before that Super Mario Maker 2 was coming to Nintendo Switch this June.
“Think of this level as a demo of Super Mario Maker, so if you’ve never played the game before and you’re thinking about getting the sequel, then I’d recommend playing this lvl to see what you think of the game,” Claptrap9 writes.
The floaty physics of LittleBigPlanet 3 (gameplay begins at 7:58) make every level seem like an ice level. You can see how long it takes for Claptrap9 just to navigate the first Goomba and jump hazard. (And they rather quickly get rid of the Thwomps after getting smashed by one.) Notwithstanding that, it’s still an impressive technical achievement, especially for a console game.
Media Molecule’s next entry in this field (although LittleBigPlanet 3 was primarily Sumo Digital’s work) will be Dreams, which is due to enter early access sometime this spring. We’ve already seen that thing do a virtuoso remake of the first level in 2008’s LittleBigPlanet. Maybe when it launches, we can see Super Mario Maker inside LittleBigPlanet 3 inside Dreams, for the ultimate turducken of creation games.
