The next Divinity is an action-packed tactics game with co-op
The Divinity franchise, a fantastic series of isometric role-playing games from Larian Studios, is being turned into a tactics games. Called Divinity: Fallen Heroes, the roughly 30-hour experience will focus on combat, while still retaining the series’ narrative focus. It will also feature a two-player cooperative mode.
Fallen Heroes is being co-developed by Logic Artists, a small independent studio in Copenhagen. They’re best known for Expeditions: Viking, a turn-based RPG with very favorable reviews on Steam.
According to a press release, Fallen Heroes continues the Divinity storyline. Players will command a group of Godwoken called the Apocalypse Squad, traveling the world in an airship called the Lady Vengeance, and doing battle against the undead Bloodless and others. Regions include the Lizard Empire and the Dwarven Kingdom. Fan favorite characters will return, including Fane, Ifan, Lohse, Sebille, Red Emperor, and Beast. Another character, Malady, will be playable for the first time. The game will also include a revised combat system, including firearms.
Most interesting of all, however, is the addition of “simultaneous co-op gameplay.” The press release says it will allow two players “to take turns and combine abilities at the same time.” The new system will be demonstrated for the first time at this year’s PAX East in Boston, starting March 28.
Additional features include the addition of different surfaces, such as fire, ice, and poison, that will impact positioning. The game will also include a tech tree, allowing players to unlock new abilities and weapons over time.
Divinity: Fallen Heroes will be released for multiple platforms later this year.
