This is what the PlayStation 5 looks like
Sony has finally revealed the design of its next-generation console, the PlayStation 5. The console’s design was revealed on Thursday during Sony’s next-generation games presentation.
And you know what? That’s certainly not what I was expecting. But maybe I should have been? The new PlayStation 5 has a white exterior that’s a bit curvy, with a black box in the middle. If the Xbox Series X is a refrigerator, the PlayStation 5 is a trophy you might get at an awards show. During the June 11 presentation, Sony also revealed that there will be a “digital” version of the PS5, without a disc-drive.
Sony showed off the first tease of PlayStation 5 hardware back in April, when it revealed the DualSense, the next generation of its DualShock controller. The DualSense has a new design, as well as new features like haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and a built-in microphone array.
Microsoft’s been a bit more forthcoming with next-gen details — we’ve known what the Xbox Series X will look like since December 2019. (We know how big it’ll be now, too.) Sony, on the other hand, has been a bit more mysterious. First details on the console were revealed in April 2019 before Sony announced the release window — holiday 2020 — in October 2019. Other than that, we’ve had brief peeks at new information, including an entirely unsurprising logo reveal.
