Destiny 2 Last Word Quest Steps: How To get The Last Word Exotic in Destiny 2?
While “The Season of the Drifter” is in full swing, adding plenty for Destiny 2 players to grind for, you may have missed a quest that launched with the last content drop.
The Exotic Hand Cannon “The Last Word” is a beautifully designed weapon, both in style and use.
It’s fully automatic, and its main perk “Fan Fire” means it is best used at short range firing from the hip – each hit will speed up reloading and increase stability.
In short, The Last Word is a fun weapon to use in Destiny 2. One of the best, and is recognised as one half of a pair of exotic hand cannons that have been added for Annual Pass owners.
Its counterpart, Thorn, was added as part of “Season Of The Drifter”. If you’re looking to own both, be sure to check out our guide by following the link.
Grab both as soon as you can, as they’ll be perfect for the games next Iron Banner event which is sure to be full of opportunities to use them.
Read on to find out how to earn yourself this space-aged, western-influenced, death-dealer.
Unfortunately, it isn’t an easy quest so you’ll want to set aside some time. There’s also a large part of it that needs to be completed within the Crucible.
To kick things off, head to The Drifter. He’ll be in the Annex next to the recently added landing point.
Once you’ve grabbed the exotic quest, it’s time to get your hands dirty. You’ll need to use Solar weapons and abilities to kill Hive, collect the Hive tablets they drop, and bump off three Hive bosses. This can be done anywhere, but we’d recommend sticking to “Savathun’s Song” if you’re grinding strikes for your milestone, or slaying a few waves of Escalation Protocol on Mars.
While that may seem simple enough, here is where things get trickier. You’ll need to get kills in the Crucible, each one rewarding you with 2% towards this step’s completion percentage. While getting 50 kills in the Crucible may sound easy, the catch is that each death will set your progress back by 1%.
Essentially, maintaining a positive Kill/Death ratio will see you progress – slowly, but surely.
Thankfully, it’s back to PVE content for the next step. You’ll need to go to Titan and into the Cargo Bay 3 lost sector.
There, you’ll find a Hive Acolyte surrounded by Wizards. Kill the Wizards to lower the Acolyte’s shield, and then kill the Acolyte.
The next step is another multi-part one, but it’s unfortunately not as simple as killing Hive. You will need to kill Hive (with precision damage), and collect larvae from them (gross). You’ll also need to run Hive Summoning events on Mars to kill Hive Wizards.
You’ll need to visit Lost Sectors to kill the “Wanted Escapees” at the end of them, so be prepared to run those pretty regularly.
Finally, back to the Crucible, where you’ll need to earn medals for revenge kills and avenging kills. Best practice here is stick with your allies and try and mop up kills.
Thankfully, the next step is simply to head to The Drifter.
You’ve made it – almost. One more step remains, and you’ll find it on The Tangled Shore. Head to an area known as “Hellfire Canyon” and interact with the flag there.
You’ll need to kill Hive until an Ogre spawns, and then – you guessed it – kill that, too. It’ll drop a “Worm” that can be used to open the next door, then you’ll need to kill three wizards.
With them down, you’ll need to jump through a hole and stand on a plate to trigger a “Steady” prompt. When this charges and changes to “Draw”, The Last Word will be next to you. Use it to disarm Enkaar by shooting his weapon from his hand.
After clearing some more enemies, you’ll be asked to do the same again, this time with two Enkaars.
Finally, clear the last group of enemies and disarm three opponents to finish the mission, and the quest.
Claim The Last Word from The Drifter, and enjoy it – you’ve earned it.
