Snag An Oculus Rift With Touch Controllers For An Awesome Price
Half-Life: Alyx sparked new interest in VR, and since its release, many VR headsets have been hard to find. Stock has slowly returned to normal, though if you want to save some money, and you’re willing to go with an older headset, you can snag an original Oculus Rift bundled with its Touch controllers for $300. The original Rift is compatible with Half-Life: Alyx, though you will be sacrificing resolution while also needing to use sensors.
While this deal is nice, you can buy an Oculus Rift S or a 64GB Oculus Quest for $400 each. The Quest in particular offers much more utility, as it’s a wireless device that doesn’t require a PC or any sensors–it’s all handled inside of the headset. However, you can still plug it into a PC and use it as if it were a Rift.
Oculus Rift with Touch controllers
The original Rift is compatible with everything the Rift S can play, though it does require the use of external sensors to track your movements–the Rift S features inside-out tracking built into the headset itself. Thankfully, this shouldn’t harm the accuracy of your movements, but you will have to do some set-up before you jump in.
The Oculus Rift’s panel resolution is 1080×1200 per eye, while the current Rift S features 2560×1440 per eye. The resolution difference shouldn’t be too much of a problem with Half-Life: Alyx, though it would look a lot nicer in a newer headset. Regardless, you’re sure to have a great time. The game scored a 9/10 in our Half-Life: Alyx review for its excellent VR mechanics and world design.
